zucchini skins

apparently baby girl isn't a fan of zucchini skins anymore.  hopefully this is just a passing phase.

and FOR THE LOVE!  why is blogger such a huge pain when it comes to videos?!

i cut off the skin and gave it to baby girl but she still "peeled" it.  hmmm.
my life has come to blogging about discarded zucchini.  this is not what i had in mind for myself a few years ago when i thought of "being a mom."

baby's call me maybe video

my favorite dancing video so far.  when an obedient child takes your direction a little too literally.

makes me laugh every time.  like with tears in my eyes.

next time i'll have to be more specific.  makes me think of my favorite moment at the splash park today when baby girl finished her peanut butter and jelly sandwich and showed me her sticky hands with a look of concern in her face.  i jokingly told her to "wipe your hands..." which got her wiping her hands on the belly of her swimsuit, "...on your face" which was just random and funny except that when i said "face" she immediately stopped with the belly rubbing and started rubbing her sticky hands all over her face.  some days she's not very obedient... but all too often she is painfully so.  i love it.

the day baby was dorothy

i was getting baby girl dressed the other day when she decided she wanted to wear her red shoes.  i know i've posted about it before but baby girl loooves her red shoes.  and since we were just headed to costco and she would do little to no walking/playing outside i just went with it.

and then i realized she looked like dorothy.

it was great.

i think she's the cutest kid on the planet.  seriously.

flying bunnies and my excellent day

today was wonderful.  i have so much to post but some of it will have to wait until tomorrow and monday and probably tuesday.  because let's get real, my blogging hasn't been too spectacular lately.

so we'll just do everything as bullet points so it's not too overwhelming for me.  i don't forget this glorious day... which don't hold your breath, it's just an ordinary day that i happened to love in an extraordinary way.

- i slept in until 9 30... and probably would have been able to sleep longer except that my honey got bored and woke me up.  for some reason (it's far too bright in my room) i wake up at 6 30 every day and then spend the next 2 hours in that half awake state, attempting to get back to sleep.  so this was pretty epic.

- honey was itching for a walmart trip (but not a family walmart trip because he hates those, and rightfully so because we can never seem to get through one still liking each other) so i told him he had to get a few things on my list (cinnamon rolls, kettle corn, an onion... y'know... the odds and ends i somehow missed this week) and he volunteered to take our baby with him!  i can tell he loves those little outings with just him and baby girl.  anyways, i took the opportunity to pack some fresh fruit (with my little fruit fork, carolyn!) and a book (i just started atlas shrugged today) and headed to the pool to actually LAY OUT.  i loooove laying out and have been obsessed with it since i was like 5 or something... can't remember exactly but i do remember my mom taking me to the pool and asking me why i kept sitting in the chair instead of swimming in the water.  ha.  the difference is that i used to get super tan and black and now i have a baby and am more responsible about life so i cover myself head to toe in 30 spf.  never anticipated that happening.  i will be white forevermore.

- i left the pool because the clouds came rolling in and the thunder started.  i stayed for a while since it was breezy and the sweat it out heat was replaced with perfect pre-storm air but then eventually i missed my honey and baby so i headed home and they were outside on the driveway.  baby girl was riding her bike and honey was planting more little seedlings (i'll have to blog about that sometime... for honey's posterity to know that at one point he loved his little seedlings as if they were his own offspring) or something.  we all hung out like that in perfection for a while and then frantically moved a pile of rocks while the rains started pouring down on us.  it made me laugh while i was running rocks back and forth and it kinda made me feel like it should be part of a movie.  and then we came inside.

- we opened the window so we could listen to the storm and i watched the downpour outside while baby girl ate her lunch.

- then i had the most awkward experience ever.  this will need it's own post.  just thinking about it makes me want to die.  seriously.  and maybe stop going to church too.  so wish me luck tomorrow.

- honey put baby girl down for nap, we watched tv together, and then i got the bug to organize our food storage in the basement.  this may have caused a little disagreement between honey and myself and short story shorter... he needed some alone time and ended out passing out in bed upstairs while i organized our food storage in the basement for an hour or two.  i lost track of time and was brought back to reality when i faintly heard my baby's cry and then glanced at my watch, panicked that it was 7:20.  ran upstairs to realize that honey was asleep and that baby girl was still in her crib from nap!  disclaimer: she didn't go down until 3 and had a super long nap.  i would have heard her earlier if she'd been awake earlier but i think she must have slept for at least 3.5 hours.  we'll never know.

- my organizing bug kept going strong and i cleaned out my car, and did an organizing overhaul on our garage.  combine this with the food storage overhaul, vacuuming for the first time in who knows how long (okay, i can't take credit for that... honey vacuumed the whole house this morning... but it still made me feel accomplished), cleaning out baby's closet, and doing a whole number of smaller tasks... the day was a success.  i've been slacking on the whole domestic housewife thing lately so this helped get me back on track a bit.  oh, and last night i reorganized our freezer (maybe not all of it but the parts i did look awesome!) and the fridge.  i need credit for those too.

- i didn't put baby girl to bed until 10:15 tonight. her sleep schedule has kinda shifted back two hours over the course of the past two weeks.  but whatever... having a baby that sleeps til 10am has it's perks and honey and i loooove that playtime with baby girl at night.  she's always so silly and happy.  tonight it was dancing... of which i have videos.  that will also require it's own post.

ps- yesterday i saved a baby bunny's life.  and today i saved another baby bunny's life.  here are pictures.

it fell into the window well for one of our basement windows and had no way of getting out.

jumping bunny
and in this picture i swear he's allllmost flying.

and here's baby girl.  doing this thing she likes to do lately.  she lays on her stomach and slides herself (forward or backward) all over the kitchen.  i should just dampen her pj's and it could replace that whole "mopping" thing that i never seem to get around to.

and then she asked where daddy was so i told her he was sitting on the sofa and she went crawling away like this.  i called out to her, "baby girl!  are you being stealth?!" to which she promptly and loudly replied, "YEP!"  man, how that kid makes me laugh.

my life is too wonderful i swear.

edibles

i have good news for you today.  turns out, you can buy happiness.  and it will only put you out about two dollars.  and it looks like this...

how on earth have i not tried this lindt white coconut before?!  oh. my. heavens.

and if you need more happiness.  spent $2.75 more to buy some of this fruity flavored happiness that comes in tiny little nuggets.

i don't care that they're a kid snack or that they're organic or gluten free and have no preservatives.  honestly, i'd probably still eat them if the box said "fruit juice nuggets: the deliciousness that will shave off 3 months of your life with each tiny packet."  target is the only place i've found that carries them, and i don't regularly go to target... so my visits tend to look much like the one yesterday.  intended purchase: delicious fruit juice nugget treats.  semi intended purchase: a gallon of whole milk.  unintentional purchases: lindt white coconut bar (pictured above), archer farms fruit leather type bars, (these are all the things you have to walk by when you're searching for the nuggets), $3 tiny container of raspberries that will be eaten in one sitting by your child within 8 minutes of getting home, and something else i can't even remember.  so my nuggets cost less than $3 and my total was over $15.  darn you target!

also, the other day, i made these deceptively delicious applesauce muffins (with a topping!  i'd never made muffins with a topping before!) and a chicken and rice recipe similar to this one that turned out a little too dry and unflavorful.  i'll get it right next time!

and last night was spaghetti for dinner and tonight will probably be cheerios since we're headed to the rockies game with honey's family.  anyone made anything especially delicious and easy lately?  send a link my way.  especially if it's for a cream based soup... not sure why i've been in the mood for that lately.  probably just the butter and cream, because that never goes out of season.  anyways... recipes... send 'em my way!

abc's video

accuracy isn't so fabulous but we'll get there eventually.

although in her defense, it's normally better when she's not stuffing her face full of string cheese.

when white capris are a bad idea

first off... does this precious picture not look like a commercial ad for indigestion or something?!  i can't be the only one who sees it.

ps- remember this commercial?

anyways... moving on.  see this sweet face?

i thought i could get away dressing her in white capris today.  all we had planned was a quick visiting teaching trip at someone's house.  no park, no errands, nothing that would entail white pants getting dirty.

well, while i was absentmindedly neglecting my steaming burning carrots, i was hanging out with baby girl in our front yard while i did some watering with a handy watering can that conveniently blew into our yard a few weeks ago.  baby girl kept trying to tip toe in the street and i kept telling her no.  so she sat her little bum down right on the curb and then would scootch herself closer and closer to the street.  one scootch to the street, one scootch back.  repeat.  she was trying so hard to be sneaky she didn't even realize that she wasn't making any progress.  right when she sat down i knew her pants were doomed so i didn't interfere.  well, here are the consequences.

why white capris come in a size 2T is completely beyond me.  but still... it was so cute while it lasted...

don't put all your carrots in one basket

yet again i've ruined more dollars of baby carrots.

i get in the mood for carrots so i pull out my pot, lid, and steamer basket.  i pour in about half a bag of carrots.  and then i get greedy and pour in the other half.  you can never have too many carrots.  then i let them steam for a good long time so they all nice and soft.  and then just when i'm about to turn off the heat, i think, "no, let's give them a few more minutes."  and then i forget about them until my house smells like camping.

and then i want to punch somebody in the face.  because not only have i wasted food and money and my house smells so bad it makes me want to vomit, but it makes me feel like an idiot because this happens at least every other week, AND... I HAVE NO LUNCH NOW.  no lunch because i had to put the WHOLE bag of carrots in the steamer basket.  it's just one of those things that makes me feel like i suck at life.  can't steam carrots = not good at life.

and don't ask why i don't set the timer... it's not because i don't think of it, it's because i can't stay on one thought long enough to actually carry it out.  i'm barely functioning, i swear.

john's weekend

this weekend was devoted entirely to john, honey's younger brother that just graduated from high school.  but let's back up a bit with a few pictures first.

thursday happened.  while i was waiting around for our sprinkler guy and the bed delivery people, i got the itch to organize our junk drawers.  they're those two top pullout drawers you see in the kitchen island.  they can hold a lot of junk.  so i pulled it all out and... the bed guys came.

yeay!  we have a bed!  see what i was saying about how we never had a bed?  just a mattress on a metal frame.  and even though it was queen size, with the way the windows are flanking that wall of the bedroom, it made our bed look awkward and tiny.  so, new king bed.

also, on a completely random note.  these are some skinny jeans i bought for baby when she was five months old.  this was before i realized that my baby would be tiny forever.  they're size 6-9 months and i was thinking she would be wearing them within two months of me purchasing them.  wrong.  18 months later and they're just really huge cropped pants.  they look cute if i can keep them pulled up on her waist but honestly, that's impossible and baby girl walk around like a thug, pausing every once in a while to try her hand at heaving those pants up on her hips.

okay, so onto john's weekend.  friday was all day graduation stuff.  graduation ceremony held at denver university.  then out to lunch with the fam at cheddars.  baby and i actually had to head out early so i could take her home for a late nap (like i think she didn't even get to sleep til close to five) but the party continued without us i'm sure.

the brothers.  minus mark who is serving his mission in mexico right now.

saturday was john's eagle court of honor.  it was at my in laws and they had lunch for everyone afterwards.  tons of good food and the sloppy joes were maybe the best i've ever had.  i ate three.  in addition to all the other food.  so delicious.

baby girl just walked right over to where her uncle john was sitting and climbed right up on his lap.  they're so cute together.
and sunday was packed too.  john got the melchizedek priesthood on sunday.  once again, baby and i couldn't join until later because i needed to be at our ward for young womens and baby needed a nap after church, but we headed over to the hilliers at 6 and ate some amazing steaks, hung out, played games, and then had some scrumptious desserts before heading home around 10.  we party hard.

looove this picture.  baby girl and her aunt stephanie.

and despite john being so busy with all of his stuff going on, he managed to find bits of time all weekend to practice abc's with baby girl.  just like this...

aaaannnnnddddd i hate blogger again.  video to be added in the near future.

big kids bed

we got a new bed.  a KING bed (first time king bed owners).  with a bed frame (first time in our marriage).  i feel like i just upgraded my sleeping arrangements to that of a "grown up" status.

and now i'm going to go try it out.
