sharks game in a suite

first things first.  this is what i'm eating right now.  it is delicious time a million.  and carolyn friend, i found out the name... mozzarella caprese.  i finally looked it up on the restaurant website.

okay.  so here's the report... the night went really well.  for everyone involved.  i wasn't sure what to do about finding someone to watch baby because i've never been on this side of the babysitting experience before.  so i just sent out an email to my RS telling them i needed someone to watch baby thursday night and they could come over or i could drop her off and we could swap hours or i could pay them (i didn't really have intention of paying anyone.  spending money does not appeal to me.) and i apologized for it being so last minute.  well, within an hour i had probably ten offers.  some free, some swapping hours.  guess which one i chose.

katie, who i visit teach, is one of those just insanely nice, giving people.  she was already booked to babysit thursday night for a couple going on a temple date, so she said i could just bring baby over and she would watch both kids out of the goodness of her heart.  people like that make me want to pay them.  they also make me feel better about leaving my kid with them.  i felt like it was a nice baby step for me leaving my kid with someone for six hours.

i had major anxiety all day.  when i walked over to drop her off, i took over two full bottles... like 15 ounces of milk (she ate 5), the entire diaper bag (i even left my keys in there although i didn't mention it because i didn't want to seem as paranoid as i actually was), miracle blanket, and moses basket.  i talked her head off for 15 minutes and reluctantly left.  in my own psychotic way, i was comforted by the fact that if something urgent happened, they had access to our whole apartment.  as if our apartment has some sort of magical powers or something.

anyways,  we got to the game early and met with the owner of the sharks, along with his wife, son, and daughter.  honey and a few classmates are working on a project for the sharks so they gave them tickets to the game.  and honey got me a ticket too!  everyone was talking sports for an hour in an informal meeting and it was all about collective bargaining agreements across the four major league sports and it was all so captivating and intriguing and all i could think about what how the owners son looked like a perfect mix of prince harry and prince william.  needless to say, i did not contribute to the meeting.

towards the end of the meeting at 7:15 on the dot, i got a text from katie saying, "abigail's been asleep for 20 minute.  everything went great!"  whew!  i told her great and thanks.  i am proud to say that i did not text her again until we were driving home... although i may have written two or three texts that i deleted half way through when i realized that i was that mom and it had only been 45 minutes/1.5 hours/2.5 hours and my baby was still sleeping.  i can't fully express how weird it was to be on the other side of the babysitting situation.

the game was awesome.  i've never watched a hockey game from a suite before.  it was nice being able to walk around and get food/drinks/sweets without leaving the view.  i liked being warm and having comfortable chairs too.  that said, i think i still prefer sitting down low at center ice.  but, both are fun.  more fun than last year when we actually paid for our own tickets (hmm, i think that's the only time we've ever done that) and didn't sit at center ice OR in a suite.  man, sometimes life is rough.

the NY islanders scored first.  then the sharks scored during a 5 on 3.  and then it went to overtime.  and then we won in a shootout.  it was really fun.  i love love LOVE shootouts.  they have a special place in my hockey heart.

k.  so here are pictures from the game!

sharkie came up to the box to say hi.

that's kevin compton, the owner.  he faked out sharkie with a too-slow handshake.  then sharkie threw popcorn at him and on the people sitting below us.  mascots can get away with anything.

i like mascots.  can you tell?

watching the game.

this is dave.  his wife made me that awesome sling.

i need a haircut.

nice, huh?

let me tell you, five years ago, i'd never watched a hockey game before.  now i've watched a million hockey games on every level and have been so a ton of nhl games too.  i would have NEVER guessed...

remember how we didn't watch a single minute of that first hockey game we went to? at least we have a million pictures to document it.
