didn't read part 1 yet? don't worry. not only was it totally pointless but irrelevant as well since this whole story doesn't even matter. just tellin' the truth. but you can click here if you want to humor me.
when i flew on thursday i nursed baby on the way up and on the way down so her ears wouldn't hurt. last time i was in an aisle seat which wasn't a ton of fun but it was manageable, even though i'm positive i flashed more than one person. so i wasn't too eager to do this in a middle seat for a number of reasons. as i was walking to my seat i was hoping i would be sitting in between two elderly women or something so it wouldn't be so awkward. ummm, not the case. two guys my same age. seriously? great. flight taking off at 9:00 which was exactly baby's feeding time (4 hours after the last feeding) but i decided baby would just have to wait. i gave her the pacifier she spent the last month hating and miraculously starting liking 12 hours before thursdays flight and she was just golden. sucked that thing the whole way up and since she wasn't being fed, i didn't have to worry about her falling asleep. thank goodness for that pacifier!!!
but then i realized, oh wait, it's been 4.5 hours since my baby ate, i WILL eventually have to feed her. well, one hour into the flight she pooped. go figure. i went to the bathroom to change her and then i sat down on the toilet (seat down, don't worry... one item of business at a time here) and nursed her. well lit, plenty of space compared to my middle seat, and all the privacy in the world. and then when she pooped again (not surprising... i'm convinced this kid is so skinny because she just poops it all out) i was right there to change her. so no blow out or outfit change needed. and instead of crying in the bathroom like before, baby had a "been there done that" attitude. you could tell she wasn't thrilled or comfortable, but she just gritted her gums and took it like a baby girl.
and then i nursed her more and went to the bathroom myself. it was all just so nice flying in my own private suite. i kid you not i was in there for almost an entire HOUR. i know this because i had my baby timer with me. want to really pass the time fast while you're on a plane? see how much you can do with a baby in a bathroom. i have a special love for bathrooms that has now expanded to include tiny airplane bathrooms. good for me.
the rest of the flight was uneventful. i couldn't get baby to go to sleep for a while because everyone had their lights on but then i got out my nursing cover to lessen the bright lights and distractions and she fell right to sleep under there. popped the pacifier in when we were descending which was nice because otherwise i would have had to wake her up to feed her. oh my goodness, the pacifier is the way to go on airplanes!
when we landed i texted honey this picture and told him baby did great!
his response? "so baby takes a binky now?"
uhh whoops. honey not thrilled. hence this next picture i texted him.
getting off the plane i had a number of people tell me what a great baby i have and that they wouldn't have even known she was on the flight. i also had the lady sitting across the aisle give me a very enthusiastic "BEST BABY EVER!" which for some reason i thought was way more hilarious than what it really was. i'm hoping to use the binky when we fly to atlanta again for thanksgiving so hopefully honey will be on board with that. and hopefully baby girl will still like it.
it really is amazing that she took the binky. remember how i said she totally loved it when i first gave it to her? well, i would never let her have it for more than a minute or two and i would just give it to her every 4 or 5 days. i guess that wasn't often enough because after a week or two she wanted nothing to do with it and she spit it out every time. it was pretty funny how high it would go when she would really POP it out. BUT this kid is amazing and as my dear friend carolyn says, "she's an old soul." she takes care of me and knows what i need. so she took it. maybe it'll happen again?
WHO KNOWS?
This story made me really want to meet her! I hope to see you and your little one at thanksgiving! Here's hoping.
ReplyDeleteGlad it was successful! Although I might have died being in the bathroom for that long....I am a little claustrophobic. LoL
ReplyDeleteGreat story!
