today's commentary, yesterday's pictures

there's not a whole lot to say about today.  it involved conference, a shower (literally- not baby or bridal), cornbread, laundry, straightening up, family bonding, and more conference.  although none of those are in order.

anyways, i took pictures (of course) of stuff that means nothing in particular but they're still on the memory card sooo, here're some randoms from yesterday.  we spent the whole morning from 10:30 to 1:30 at ashley's where baby girl had a blast with elsie and beau.  when we got home, baby girl's feet were a little disgusting with dirt and sand from the backyard - side note: ashley said that built in sandbox they put in was the worst decision of her life and they are taking it out asap.  ha.  - so i stripped her and let her hang out in the kitchen sink for a little while and basically gave her a mini shower with the kitchen faucet sprayer.  she hates baths so although this involved a lot of frantic "all done! all done! all done!" there were actually no tears!  there were also no bath towels but as it turns out, a hand towel is the perfect size for a little baby girl!

and i kinda cracked myself up by wrapping it around her like a grownup.  she wasn't amused at all but was grossly interested in her tevas instead.  which were also thoroughly washed.

this is what i get for attempting to use a point and shoot in low/no light situations.  sad.

so on that half naked note, happy conference weekend to you!

just follow the directions

we'll call this "a lesson in cooking: what not to do" or something like that.

wednesday night i decided to try out a new salmon recipe from my favorite cookbook because i had a massive hunk of salmon in our freezer from honey's dad from a fishing trip he went on.  soo i pulled out my cookbook, looked up salmon, and found a delicious, simple, and quick recipe and like with pretty much every recipe out of that book, i already had all of the ingredients on hand.  i was feelin' good.

well, the plan was for honey to watch baby girl outside while i got dinner together.  i thought this would be easier than the norm which is her clinging to my legs crying while i try to fumble through a recipe that takes me ten times longer than it's supposed to because i'm so add.  well, honey kept getting phone calls and was arranging a craigslist pickup for a bedroom set we wanted and well... baby girl was frustrated and neglected.  the add kicked in.  dinner was moving along painfully slow and when i got to this mixture... i knew something had to be wrong.

because that sure doesn't look like something that happens on purpose.  i reread the instructions.  here's what i was supposed to have done: 1. sprinkle salt and pepper over salmon. 2. mix melted butter, honey, and mustard, and brush over salmon.  3. mix crushed pecans, parsley, and breadcrumbs and spoon across salmon.

here's what i did: mix all ingredients together into thick, nasty, vomit-looking paste (see above picture), while neglected, angry toddler screams at you for not taking her outside to play with the neighbor girl (see below picture).

still, it turned out pretty close to the picture and it tasted fabulous.  that's what i call fool proof.

i'll take whatever success i can get when my baby looks like this...

so this is the before bake picture and sadly, i forgot to take a picture of it fresh out of the oven, but i swear it looked nice and pretty.

and i had to take a picture of this, because as i said before, baby girl is turning back into her normal self and taking an interest in toys again!  YEAY!

toes.  finally got a picture after at least ten attempts.

and really, i'm not sure either why i keep attempting this self portrait mother daughter thing.

i keep telling myself that maybe someday i'll need proof that i did more than follow my baby around with a camera.  y'know... that i held her every once in a while.

moral of the story: follow cooking instructions and hold your child.

ps- i just found a spider while i was writing this post.  neither of us have moved and i'm just praying it will stay perfectly still until honey can come home to kill it for me.  and i just texted my neighbor to ask if her daughter would kill a spider for me.  for a small fee of course.  i'm beginning to rethink that whole "loving this warm weather" thing.

spider spider go away come again never ever ever ever ever ever ever.

in all seriousness though, how old do you think baby has to be before she can kill spiders for me?  maybe by next summer?  that's definitely something a three year old should be capable of, right?  parents of older children... get back to me on that one.  asap.

randoms

tonight was temple baptisms with the youth.  i haven't done youth baptisms since i was a youth myself.  and i've never done baptisms in the denver temple.  and i haven't done baptisms at all in almost five years, since i went through the temple.  i was a little bit terrified like a fish out of water.  but i was the girl that handed out the towels and really, i only screwed up once.  my shoes and skirt got wet but i survived.  all in all a really great night.  i loooove those young women.

we got furniture for our guest bedroom!  i'll take a picture once it gets set up.  woohoo!

today i made serious progress cleaning out our catchall junk room.  it's actually just the yellow bedroom upstairs but it's been trashed these past few months so i've been trying to spent some time in there sorting and organizing whenever i get a minute.  and today i made major progress so i'm super pumped.  maybe maybe maybe i can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel for that.  i consider myself an organized person but lately, my house has not been reflecting that in the least.  picked up? yes.  clean? no.  organized?  definitely not.  that's what spring is for, right?  i credit spring with this motivation i'm experiencing.

because i know you're so anxious to know... no, the yogurt on the patio didn't work out.  i guess i was a little too anxious for the warm weather.  it's nice outside but not quite hot enough to make yogurt.  i had to bring it inside and finish the job in the cooler.  someday i'll post how easy it is to make your own yogurt.  easy as can be and makes you feel like pioneer woman.  very empowering.

loving the warm weather but i think my favorite part is the cute summery clothes i get to pick out for baby girl each day.  i love seeing her little arms and lets poke out of her t shirt and shorts.  and her love for those pink tevas is inspiring.  i wish i loved getting dressed even a 100th as much as i love dressing baby girl.

i love my friends.  near and far.  i wish i wasn't so crappy at keeping in touch with people.  i used to be really good at that and now life is busy and i use my free time to nap.  ugh.  i swear i'll get better with this whole time management thing.  i HAVE to!

baby girl is still doing well.  not quite back to how she was a few weeks ago, but she's been sleeping in til at least 8 every day and her naps monday, tuesday, wednesday, and today have all been three hours or close to it.  and she's doing well playing on her own and has even started playing with some of her toys again!  i feel like i was without my baby for that week she turned into jekyll and hyde and it's laughable how excited and appreciative i am of my sweet baby girl's return!

k, i'm tired and off to bed.  as soon as i sneak upstairs for a minute to kiss my baby goodnight!

spring is in the air!

i am absolutely fascinated by all of these bright green leaves sprouting out of all things brown and dead looking!  i can't get enough of it!

we love pointing at birds and trees and flowers and basically anything we see.

making yogurt
i FINALLY painted my toes this morning.  i did it in front of baby girl to be a good example.  then, when i finished and asked if she wanted her toes painted like mama she said yes!  and was really good while i painted them for her!
and baby wouldn't let me take a picture of her toes but let me just say, it was a happy coincidence that the color i used matches her tevas to a T.
when i listen to the birds and close my eyes, i maybe imagine myself on the grounds of pemberley.  more often than not.  completely appropriate because i consider my house my very own pemberley.

ps- these two are amazing.

littleton museum = farm

this morning we went on a little outing to the littleton historical museum.  i'm sure they have some inside museum stuff but we spent our whole time outside checking out the 1800's homes, school house, barns, and blacksmith... and lots and lots of farm animals.  all for free.  it was fabulous!  but despite how fun all of the animals and historic buildings were, my favorite part was hanging out with chelsey, kelly, and jill.  baby's favorite part was hanging out with all their kids.  EIGHT other kids to play with?!  what a dream come true!

with griffin.  as i took this picture chelsey exclaimed, "oh, this will be awesome to include in their wedding video slideshow!"  love it.
the "doesn't need to go potty" group.  a bunch of kids in diapers plus one old enough to hold it.    we had a stroller party while we waited.
and pregnant chelsey.  i'm going to have a hard time not calling her that come june when her baby is out.
why hello there.  we think this was a mule.  we came to that conclusion after a long discussion of horses, donkeys, mules, and mating.

fat chance getting the kid to look at the camera when there is a gigantic cow three feet away.
griffin is covering is face because he's scared.  of what, you ask?
this guy.  which didn't scare kelly's kids at all.
who actually was kinda frightening looking.
tiny little lamb
so precious on his wobbly little legs
kelly and braxton.  and some sheep.
kelly's looking glamorous.  jill is equally pretty but must not have gotten the memo about smiling for the camera.  not my fault because it was so bright i couldn't see what i was taking a picture of.
playing in the giant wagon
with griff
oh how i adore my child!  she was so happy today!
with... ummm... one of jill's four girls.  i always get the middle two mixed up.

she may have cried a little bit when she had to get out of the wagon...
once again.  not gonna look at the camera when there's livestock around.
we'll definitely have to go back soon before it gets too hot!

which speaking of, i'm attempting to make yogurt outside on my back patio instead of in a cooler.  crossing my fingers it works!
