i have good news for you today. turns out, you can buy happiness. and it will only put you out about two dollars. and it looks like this...
how on earth have i not tried this lindt white coconut before?! oh. my. heavens.
and if you need more happiness. spent $2.75 more to buy some of this fruity flavored happiness that comes in tiny little nuggets.
i don't care that they're a kid snack or that they're organic or gluten free and have no preservatives. honestly, i'd probably still eat them if the box said "fruit juice nuggets: the deliciousness that will shave off 3 months of your life with each tiny packet." target is the only place i've found that carries them, and i don't regularly go to target... so my visits tend to look much like the one yesterday. intended purchase: delicious fruit juice nugget treats. semi intended purchase: a gallon of whole milk. unintentional purchases: lindt white coconut bar (pictured above), archer farms fruit leather type bars, (these are all the things you have to walk by when you're searching for the nuggets), $3 tiny container of raspberries that will be eaten in one sitting by your child within 8 minutes of getting home, and something else i can't even remember. so my nuggets cost less than $3 and my total was over $15. darn you target!
also, the other day, i made these deceptively delicious applesauce muffins (with a topping! i'd never made muffins with a topping before!) and a chicken and rice recipe similar to this one that turned out a little too dry and unflavorful. i'll get it right next time!
and last night was spaghetti for dinner and tonight will probably be cheerios since we're headed to the rockies game with honey's family. anyone made anything especially delicious and easy lately? send a link my way. especially if it's for a cream based soup... not sure why i've been in the mood for that lately. probably just the butter and cream, because that never goes out of season. anyways... recipes... send 'em my way!

abc's video
accuracy isn't so fabulous but we'll get there eventually.
although in her defense, it's normally better when she's not stuffing her face full of string cheese.
when white capris are a bad idea
first off... does this precious picture not look like a commercial ad for indigestion or something?! i can't be the only one who sees it.
ps- remember this commercial?
anyways... moving on. see this sweet face?
i thought i could get away dressing her in white capris today. all we had planned was a quick visiting teaching trip at someone's house. no park, no errands, nothing that would entail white pants getting dirty.
well, while i was absentmindedly neglecting my steaming burning carrots, i was hanging out with baby girl in our front yard while i did some watering with a handy watering can that conveniently blew into our yard a few weeks ago. baby girl kept trying to tip toe in the street and i kept telling her no. so she sat her little bum down right on the curb and then would scootch herself closer and closer to the street. one scootch to the street, one scootch back. repeat. she was trying so hard to be sneaky she didn't even realize that she wasn't making any progress. right when she sat down i knew her pants were doomed so i didn't interfere. well, here are the consequences.
why white capris come in a size 2T is completely beyond me. but still... it was so cute while it lasted...

don't put all your carrots in one basket
yet again i've ruined more dollars of baby carrots.
i get in the mood for carrots so i pull out my pot, lid, and steamer basket. i pour in about half a bag of carrots. and then i get greedy and pour in the other half. you can never have too many carrots. then i let them steam for a good long time so they all nice and soft. and then just when i'm about to turn off the heat, i think, "no, let's give them a few more minutes." and then i forget about them until my house smells like camping.
and then i want to punch somebody in the face. because not only have i wasted food and money and my house smells so bad it makes me want to vomit, but it makes me feel like an idiot because this happens at least every other week, AND... I HAVE NO LUNCH NOW. no lunch because i had to put the WHOLE bag of carrots in the steamer basket. it's just one of those things that makes me feel like i suck at life. can't steam carrots = not good at life.
and don't ask why i don't set the timer... it's not because i don't think of it, it's because i can't stay on one thought long enough to actually carry it out. i'm barely functioning, i swear.

john's weekend
this weekend was devoted entirely to john, honey's younger brother that just graduated from high school. but let's back up a bit with a few pictures first.
thursday happened. while i was waiting around for our sprinkler guy and the bed delivery people, i got the itch to organize our junk drawers. they're those two top pullout drawers you see in the kitchen island. they can hold a lot of junk. so i pulled it all out and... the bed guys came.
yeay! we have a bed! see what i was saying about how we never had a bed? just a mattress on a metal frame. and even though it was queen size, with the way the windows are flanking that wall of the bedroom, it made our bed look awkward and tiny. so, new king bed.
also, on a completely random note. these are some skinny jeans i bought for baby when she was five months old. this was before i realized that my baby would be tiny forever. they're size 6-9 months and i was thinking she would be wearing them within two months of me purchasing them. wrong. 18 months later and they're just really huge cropped pants. they look cute if i can keep them pulled up on her waist but honestly, that's impossible and baby girl walk around like a thug, pausing every once in a while to try her hand at heaving those pants up on her hips.
okay, so onto john's weekend. friday was all day graduation stuff. graduation ceremony held at denver university. then out to lunch with the fam at cheddars. baby and i actually had to head out early so i could take her home for a late nap (like i think she didn't even get to sleep til close to five) but the party continued without us i'm sure.
saturday was john's eagle court of honor. it was at my in laws and they had lunch for everyone afterwards. tons of good food and the sloppy joes were maybe the best i've ever had. i ate three. in addition to all the other food. so delicious.
baby girl just walked right over to where her uncle john was sitting and climbed right up on his lap. they're so cute together. |
and sunday was packed too. john got the melchizedek priesthood on sunday. once again, baby and i couldn't join until later because i needed to be at our ward for young womens and baby needed a nap after church, but we headed over to the hilliers at 6 and ate some amazing steaks, hung out, played games, and then had some scrumptious desserts before heading home around 10. we party hard.
and despite john being so busy with all of his stuff going on, he managed to find bits of time all weekend to practice abc's with baby girl. just like this...
aaaannnnnddddd i hate blogger again. video to be added in the near future.

big kids bed
we got a new bed. a KING bed (first time king bed owners). with a bed frame (first time in our marriage). i feel like i just upgraded my sleeping arrangements to that of a "grown up" status.
and now i'm going to go try it out.

an awkward kiss
this morning while i was getting ready, baby girl admired herself in the mirror and then diapered her baby 100% by herself. i took a picture of it because this is the best job she's ever done completely on her own. i clapped and cheered and made a big deal about it. she seemed to know she'd done an awesome job too.
the legs aren't poking through but look how nice and even that is! |
and then she ripped it off and we were out of there!
as she said over and over, "i go bye bye." |
then baby girl put the baby doll in this empty laundry basket and said "it's baby's nap." so i told her "ohhh, then you better give her a kiss goodnight. and then ensued the most awkward kiss i have ever seen. i soooo wish i'd been using my point and shoot so i could have gotten a quick video.
but even after all of that, she wasn't ever able to get close enough for a kiss. so she stepped back and reassessed the situation.
and then we were off to the park.

and another simple video
here's yet another random and pointless video of a typical snipit from life around here. my "whoa!" at the beginning of the video is because that watering can was super full and baby girl just heaved it up and started walking with it. i underestimated my little child's muscle power. but now i know.
and at the end of the video when she's pointing to honey watering the lawn, she's saying "that's daddy's milk." meaning that chris is using the hose to water the lawn. i know it's typical for toddlers to generalize when they label something, but count on my child to use to the term "milk" to describe ALL liquid. we're working on it.
just like how we're working on on the "cheese" situation. "cheese" can describe any cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, muenster, colby jack, blends, you name it) shredded, sliced, or spreadable. normally the confusion is solved by just standing by the cheese drawer and showing her all the options so that she can tell me which type she wants. but it has gotten trickier. because over the last several weeks, baby girl has decided that "cheese" also stands for butter (which i found out today that she likes to eat plain... thinly sliced. this really is my child), cream cheese (also eaten plain... cut in cubes or slices), and sour cream (eated plain... spoonful by enormous spoonful). sour cream is actually baby girl's favorite food right now. she never refuses it and never leaves any on her tray. we are currently buying the full fat sour cream in the 3 lb tubs at costco and going through them easily. between the two of us for dinner, we probably went through two cups of sour cream. one cup for baby, one for me.
life is good with sour cream. and with baby girl.
