this morning started out really great. slow and low key. baby and i didn't even get out of bed until close to 10:30. so really, we were on track for an amazing day. we ate breakfast and played dress up... compromising on the clothes baby got to try on. then it went south. baby found a travel size bottle of lotion she wanted me to open but that would be disastrous so i held my ground with a firm no way. HUGE tantrum. and it continued on and on and on. this baby is obsessed with lotion. and chapstick and a few other things... but lotion is high on that list.
anyways, whenever baby is getting out of control, i find that the very best solution is to inundate her with love and attention. it's normally because she knows i'm giving her the shaft. so i let her choose not to put a shirt on and when she insisted on not just a ponytail or a bow but a ponytail with that certain enormous giant flower (disclaimer: this was a regift that my friend gave me when baby was born. her mom had gotten some giant flowers for her daughter who hated them. so we have a bunch of these but baby has never worn it. promise.) so since we weren't leaving the house i granted her topless self that wish and she was just as happy as could be about it.
and then we ate lunch.
that pile of corn on the right used to look just like that pile of taco soup on the left. |
and then for the few minutes between lunch and nap, we played peekaboo.
so there you go. that was our "morning." which was actually more like 10:30 til 2:30 if you can call that morning.
and here's my bit of unsolicited advice: if your kid is driving you nuts or having yet another meltdown. try dropping everything and just focusing on them. i stayed up til after 11 tonight doing dishes and cleaning and i wanted to have a panic attack today with how dirty my house was, but y'know what? it was totally worth it. because every time i give baby girl 100% of my attention, even if it's just for a few minutes, i love her more and more and i love my life more and i am just happier overall as a result of it. end of story.
