when in doubt, ask.

take in this beautiful scene.

about a minute and a half before this picture was taken, i was asked if my child was a boy or a girl.

we were out walking through a nearby neighborhood enjoying the evening weather when the street we were walking on dead ended into a park.  straight ahead was a green field with a mix matched bunch of the worst football playing middle aged men you've ever seen.  they were very obviously having lots of fun and were completely oblivious to their lack of skill and coordination in the sport.  it was heartwarming and very entertaining.  we came to the conclusion that they must be from a nearby mental hospital of some sort because they were much like the men we knew when we were volunteering at the mental hospital in provo when we were taking abnormal psych at byu.

around this time, a middle aged asian woman pushing a stroller walked past us on her way to the playground to our left.  as she walked past us, she did a double take and actually walked back a few steps to tell us what a beautiful child we had.  we thanked her as she stood there for ten seconds or so just admiring our baby.  then she looked at us and said "boy or girl?"

i know old people have trouble with this and now i guess asians do to.  i can only guess it's a cultural thing.  how else could you miss the head to toe purple including flowered pants and headband?
