sick day

I woke up this morning feeling so crappy.  sore throat and body aches.... especially in my neck and shoulders.  I really just wanted to stay in bed all day but I knew that would likely lead to more frustrations and trouble than it would save me because I'd likely end up screaming at my kids and finding that my house was mysteriously covered in peanut butter or something.  so, I made it a goal to go about my day as usual, giving myself just a little more grace.  with it being Wednesday, I should have probably gone to sprouts for produce and a weights class at the gym with Sarah and the fun run in the afternoon to watch Abigail and to even let Brady run with the preschoolers.

I didn't do any of those things.  I barely got Abigail to school and then struggled myself to the gym where I just spent some time in the sauna and then listened to scriptures with my eyes closed while I walked on the treadmill.

Against my wanting, I let Brady and Elizabeth play outside on the playground a bit. it was worth it though... they both loved it.

Elizabeth has such big emotions.  I can't even remember why she got sad.  I think it might have been because I told them it was time to go and she turned around and gave me a look and then busted out in tears most of the way back to the car.

I frequently don't have enough hands so Elizabeth holds Brady's hand in the parking lot.  it is so precious ever single time.

this guy is so interactive these days and I love it so much.

Brady was dying to go to the fun run but both second grade and preschool were at different times but both during nap time.  and of course the weather was 50* and windy and rainy.  I told Brady that fun runs weren't actually fun and I would give him candy instead.  so he took a nap.  Sarah sent me these pictures of Abigail later.  I'd been contemplating asking her to take Brady to the fun run but decided against it.  of course I got crap from Sarah for it later "WHY DIDN'T YOU HAVE ME TAKE HIM?!?! HE WOULD HAVE HAD A BLAST!!!"  whoops.  next year, Brady boy.  kindergarten fun run will be calling your name.

I need to start writing lessons with Abigail.  I'm thinking of multitasking it and teaching it to Brady and Abigail at the same time.  one of my biggest academic regrets with Abigail is not teaching her how to write.  I left it up to the public school system and it didn't pan out too nicely.  so I know now not to make that mistake with Brady, but I know I also need to take responsibility and help Abigail where she is at right now.

Andrea dekker is the only blog I read on a regular basis.  this comment from Ree Klein was entertaining but then totally killed me when I saw she has a sister named Dee.

Elizabeth is so funny.

also, Costco had these pjs last year and I loved them but the smallest size was 2T so I've been not very patiently waiting for her to be able to wear these.  she's just turning into this little person.

honey always climbs in bed and doesn't smooth out the covers.  I keep telling him that he's going to suffocate our baby.

I'm thankful my sick day went as well as it did.

Tuesday

fell asleep while being neglected again.  and poor guy, I startled him when I finally did come in the room.

I ran into Sarah while I was at the gym and she faked being my personal trainer and had me lifting weights.  I also tried out some torture machine that had me dying after literally four minutes.  I stayed on it for six thought, only because of the peer pressure of Tina, the lady I just met, that happened to be on the same machine next to me and gave me a thumbs up just seconds before I was going to give up.  it looks and feels like an elliptical machine except that it's not and it turned my legs to jelly.  I spent the rest of my time stretching and doing floor stuff on a yoga mat.  I don't enjoy being tired.

we stopped at the playground for a few minutes after the gym.

Brady was SO excited to push Elizabeth on the big kid swing.  he even pushed her by her feet because "that's what Lisa does."

eventually, Elizabeth got off and immediately started looking for food.  she is such a fatty and constantly foraging for food.

so when we got home, the kids had sandwiches and apple sauce.  except that both of them took their sandwich apart and ate the half that had Nutella on it and left the side that had peanut butter on it.  punks.

my friend, Danielle, has so generously offered to pick Brady up each Tuesday and Thursday and take him to school when she takes her youngest.  literally my dream come true.  Brady and I call it the Quentin bus because that's the boy's name and the car is a gold colored minivan that just so happens to pull up in front of our house like a bus.  so in a way, it's also Brady's dream come true.  we were waiting by the front door for the Quentin bus and I was eating my leftover teriyaki chicken bowl for lunch, then I sent Brady out and waved goodbye and walked into the kitchen to this.  the girl swiped my lunch without me even realizing it!  she seriously wreaks havoc everywhere she goes and does it SO silently.  she's just so sneaky.  and hilarious when she's not driving me insane.

see how I'm wearing the same shirt as in the last picture?  I don't have a large collection of exercise clothing.  BUT I have gotten myself several pairs of shorts and leggings.  in case you're looking for a pair of running/exercise shorts... I highly recommend these Jillian Michaels shorts.  they have a super comfy waistband, the built in spandex shorts underneath (instead of just the underwear liner thing), and two large side pockets.  best of all, you can find them on Walmart.com right now for $3 and they come in black, coral, and Tiffany blue.

you're welcome.

the rest of the day went well.  with two kids in school and two kids napping, I took a long shower (and cleaned it while I was in there).  after school, we played outside a ton and hung out with the neighbors until 6:30.  Abigail was on one and refusing to write her sentences so she didn't really get to join us.  I think she finally wrote her sentences around 7:00.  it kills me that it drags into a three hours ordeal but I'm not really sure how to make that different.

from Brady's backpack.

from Abigail's back pack.

Elizabeth and Emerson play together all the time now when they're outside.  it's hilarious to listen to their conversations.

so the boys played baseball and the girls read books and the parents just hung out.  we're all matched up.

Elizabeth looked so cold but kept saying that she didn't want to go inside.

Abigail had a rough afternoon and was sent inside and to her room on multiple occasions.  i came inside to this.  can you say "passive aggressive"?

Brady was asking if he was going to be okay in his fleece pjs or would he get too hot and expressing concern about that.

one hour later...  I think we call that a happy medium.

the shorts.  I feel like I need to write a review to offset the one and only negative review that's there.

anyway, we all survived the day just fine and I even was able to accomplish a load of laundry before taking Abigail to school and another one in the afternoon.

hoping my sore throat and achey body aren't so pronounced tomorrow.  Christopher is one day ahead of me in the sickness and he said his sore throat was less today than yesterday so that gives me a little bit of hope.
