I felt guilty tonight for not warning my sweet baby girl about brain freeze.
Although she devoured that ice cream sandwich so fast it's not like I really had any time. She looked so panicked like she was about to cry and we kept telling her she could spit it out and yet, I could not for the life of me stop laughing. Payback for the grief she's giving me these days.

Les mis
Yesterday afternoon honey took me on a date to see les mis while my wonderful mother stayed home with our kids (it's so weird for me for that to be plural) and we had a great time. The movie was quite graphic for me and I'm really not a movie person in general but by the end I was doing okay. Like the full body sweat finally stopped. Seriously it was intense.
When we got home our kids were doing better than when we left them and we promptly asked mom if she would watch them again in a few hours. She said yes so we got to spend part of the night hanging out with elder Christensen of the seventy. Super nice guy. Not as funny as some of he others but he made me feel like he was a longtime family friend or something. And when he heard I'd just had a baby he told me I looked fabulous or amazing or something like that. Which will always earn you bi points in my book. Great guy that elder Christensen.

"no"
while repeatedly dropping a plastic golf ball between our mattress and foot board, baby girl answered my "do you want to go help daddy put milk in your sippy cup?" with a "no. i'm doin' this game."
while abigail was playing toys in the playroom, my christopher was looking at videos on his phone. at one point, she stopped what she was doing to go look over his shoulder at his phone which was playing a 45 second advertisement for payday loans of some sort. when it ended, she turned to him and said, "that was a pretty good video!"
my mother brought me a bunch of stuff that was just sitting in my childhood bedroom. one thing was a jewelry box with random necklaces, rings, earrings, and bracelets. it's been her favorite thing todestroy play with since we got it out. while i was nursing brady on my bed, i saw abigail run in with a gold chain. she tried to fit it over her head but since it was clasped, it was too small. so within two seconds of her running in, she'd tried to fit it over her head and the chain snapped. "it broke! i'll go get another one!" and she went running off. she came in 20 seconds later with a beaded elastic bracelet and just as fast, tried to fit it over her head. it snapped and tiny red beads burst everywhere. what does she say? "oh! it broke! i'll go get another one!" by that time i was almost in tears trying not to laugh. seriously baby girl? stop trying to fit this stuff over your head!
everthing she says makes me want to die laughing.
except for when she says some variation of, "i want mommy to sing twinkle twinkle little star with abigail again." that just makes me want to smother her with kisses.
tonight baby girl put together her thomas puzzle with very minimal help. i was blown away when i saw she sorted her pieces and put thomas together. and then she kept going! we watched a few episodes of duck dynasty tonight and baby girl just played so nicely. she was exceptionally cute tonight... in my opinion.
and just for the record. her default response used to be an enthusiastic affirmative to anything i wanted her to do ("baby girl, will you go throw this away for me please?" "oh! yeah!") and now it is almost always no. apparently she has better things to do. like games.

Friday
Are you sick of hearing about creme brûlée?! Or story time? There's not a lot of variety around here. I ate almost an entire 8x8 pan of it.
And then I felt nauseous.

A health conscious dessert
Just kidding. You should know better than that. Tonight mother and I made creme brûlée for the first time ever. It was just what we needed after a day of fighting a newborn that won't nap.
and in case you were thinking things were looking too rosy to match up with that post from the other day, here's some real life for you.
and they were all delicious and the best part is that we still have a whoooole lot left to eat!
i'll be back up to my pregnancy weight in no time!* that's the goal right?
*but seriously, this recipe has 4 cups of heavy whipping cream in it and if you're not familiar with those nutrition facts i'll burst your happy bubble and have you know that one single tablespoon has 6 grams of fat. and google tells me there are 16 tablespoons in a cup. do the math. there is a very likely chance i'll be consuming at least 100 grams of fat in the next 24 hours from creme brulee alone... this is my favorite dessert ever.
ps- it was this recipe from pioneer woman. i find it hard to go wrong with that lady.
and just to help you pretend like you were there... here's a million more pictures from our night.

she's crying? oh what a surprise! just kidding... yesterday was actually a really good day for her.
won't sleep without being held, rocket, and binkied? wondeful! i can do that for you!
oh look... you're still sad! cute, but sad.
eggs and egg whites! tomorrow: angel food cake!
and guess who i'm still holding...
our recipe was kinda large (yes, we knew that going into it) so we filled our tiny ramekins an then these two dishes as well. and maybe one more...
she is seriously the cutest thing i've ever laid eyes on. even when she's crying. but especially when she's happy.
i should mention that my mom did 99% of the making...
because if you thought i was exaggerating about this guy needing to constantly be held... you were wrong.
this was the one i did. it's hard on top but not very brown. i was worried about melting the custard underneath. and we don't have superfine bakers sugar like pioneer woman.
mom did a better job with hers.
of course.

i've got a lot to learn
i want five kids. possibly six, but at least five. even after the past two weeks. which is crazy because i am not doing this two kid thing gracefully in the least.
i've already mentioned that i'm constantly covered in a variety of bodily fluids and even when i do actually shower and get dressed, i wear the same three scoop neck shirts and tanks over and over again because when brady decides he needs to eat it was ten minutes ago dangit and what's taking you so long?! so naturally i feel gorgeous. not at all like a poorly dressed cow giving out milk on demand. not. at. all.
my first kid never cried as a newborn and very very rarely as a baby and she has remained an unusually easy child. my second kid is quite the opposite. on the rare occasion that he's awake but not eating or crying, he's either grunting, fussing, or some other combination of noises that don't even have a name.
and as if the introduction of a crying newborn was not enough to get used to, it has also coincided with the injection of some radioactive substance into what used to be my angelic toddler, giving her obscene amounts of physical energy while making her insanely clumsy as well. she has sustained more major head injuries in the last two weeks than i can even keep track of. although that fall at costco yesterday bashing her head flat into the cement floor yielded a really great nap. and yes, i know you're supposed to keep your kid awake after stuff like that to check for signs of a concussion but i just threw her in bed and relished in the, now infrequent, occasion that i would have three uninterrupted hours of not constantly contemplating tossing my daughter out of window. i'd already spent much of the morning encouraging her to run away with a stranger so i took this as an improvement in my day.
so while my kids are frequently simultaneously crying and demanding my attention, my mother keeps laughing at my comments and questions asking if it's too late to go back on this motherhood thing and start a career instead. i wonder at what point she'll start getting worried for her grandkids. i know it hasn't happened already because i still get the sense she's in my camp more than theirs. did i mention she'd been in town less than two hours before she suggested possibly changing her ticket to leave early. well, should i go ahead and tell you that she arrived tuesday and by wednesday morning she'd changed her flight? she says it because she wants to make it to salt lake for a wedding but we all know the real reason.
they're not as angelic as they seem.

Two weeks old
If I went as far past my due date with Brady as I did with Abigail, I'd still be pregnant right now. Granted, I'd be in labor, but still, I'd be pregnant. It's crazy to me that I got gipped out of two whole weeks of being pregnant.
In other news, we finally ran out of hospital diapers so my two week stint of having two kids in pampers is over and will likely never happen again due to my cheapness and love of luvs.
Also, Brady got his first real bath tonight and hated it every bit as much as his previous one in the hospital.
Mom and I took baby girl and Brady to Walmart today for our first real outing. Brady slept the entire time so the biggest inconvenience was that his carseats took up my whole basket. Tips on grocery shopping with an infant in carseat and toddler needing to be contained?
How many times today did you come in contact with three of your child's bodily fluids? Because I lost count and eventually took a shower.
And tell me what it is about cleavage being a magnet for baby vomit? It doesn't matter if I'm burping him, nursing him, or down the street from him, Brady will somehow always manage to get his vomit down my cleavage. I swear I'd trade out my low scoop neck shirts for turtlenecks if they were equally easy to nurse in.
And that Walmart trip? We got there by 9:30 this morning! I can honestly say that has never happened to me before. Although I did plan to give Abigail a banana in the car for breakfast in the car and forgot. Do I still get credit for leaving he house so early when I forget to feed myself and my toddler breakfast? Say yes.
And last night was my first time not staying up til midnight on New Year's Eve. I don't regret it one single bit.

She's arrived!
Yesterday my mother made it to town. Bearing lots of gifts in many bags of luggage. Let the games begin!
