a question for you

overheard the other day...

dad 1: how long is your baby sleeping at night?
dad 2: won't tell you... you'd be jealous.
dad 1: well the twins are doing 7-8 hours.
dad 2: our kid is averaging 11.
dad 1: babywise?
mom 2: yes.

i'm curious to know...  what are your feelings/successes/failures/stories/etc. on sleep training?

I was too scared to ever do it with Adalie because she would puke every time we tried to let her cry it out. At a year, she finally started sleeping through the night on her own. Cason was awesome at sleeping through the night until we moved...he was 4 mth. When we got here, he was waking up like 2 or 3 times during the night. We couldn't stand it so about 3 wks ago we just started to let him cry it out (he was almost 6 mths). Absolutely broke my heart. I always had to leave the room to sleep somewhere else (he was in the same room with us because of Adalie in the other) and it took a good 4 or 5 days but now he does pretty great. 7:30 pm to 7ish am. Worth it in the end, but hard to start. Good luck!! I never read a book about it, but who knows it might help!! LoL

i wouldn't ask me that. my child is two and three months and still wakes up in the middle of the night so she can sleep with me. so obviously i failed in the sleep department

Carrie, I have read probaby every baby sleep book out there (I've had too many pregnancies with bedrest...I drive myself a little crazy!) Anyway, I've found that I always take bits and pieces from all of them. The one that most closely resembles my philosophy and that has worked great for me was the Baby Whisperer books by Tracy Hogg. Brody was the worlds worst sleeper and her tricks and methods made him into an angel sleeper. I'm not kidding! He still comes and tells me, "Mommy, my body is so tired. I want to go night night." and then usually proceeds to sleep for quite a nap. That may just be his personality, though, who knows?! I've done a lot of the same things with Parker, though, and it seems to work :) I just like her because she's kind of a middle of the road approach. She's not a staunch advocate of crying it out or attachment parenting. She's somewhere in the middle which is what I liked. Hope that helps! If you have any questions, let me know!

I love that you're bragging on your kid's sleeping habits.

You're already good at this.
