Making progress

this week has been an adjustment for us.  abigail is driving me crazy and it seems i'm driving her crazy because i'm not grandma and grandpa.  and she's been up a million times a night.  and i've been sick since 2 am monday morning.  and my house has been a disaster because coming back from a trip always means lots of laundry and unpacking and this time it also meant putting away all of our christmas decorations and presents and mess.  my friend kirstyn dropped by today unannounced.  myself and the kids were all in our pjs and the house looked like a tornado blew in.  but then brady took a 3+ hour nap and abigail had an hour and half of quiet time (although the noisiest quiet time ever because instead of playing upstairs, she just sat at the top of the stairs and talked to me non stop while i was cleaning up downstairs) and i was able to make a lot of progress.  i also made (although always temporary) progress in my goal to keep my patience with abigail.  brady is an awesome kid these days but abigail is a stubborn spaz.  so she wears on my nerves and really brings out my temper.  today we were pretty good buddies though.  the whole day was really good.

i woke up at 8:45 and heard abigail playing in the great room.  so i stayed under the covers in bed for an hour and played on the phone and texted emmy until i had to finally get out and blow my nose.  so then of course abigail is waiting for me when i come out of the bathroom and she's still in her pjs but in a princess dress as well and saying nothing other than repeatedly declaring "wonderful food!"  so random.  but i really really loved that she played quietly in the next room instead of waking me up.  i hope that continues.

i also loved this.  when i made her this little bed last night it was along side my side of the bed.  but when i woke up it was at the food of the bed.  i asked her how her bed got there and she told me it was when she was making her bed.

she made her bed when she woke up.

i really do love this girl.

brady did another 14+ hour night and didn't get up til closer to 10:30.  meanwhile, abigail and i got started on breakfast.  and she ate a few bites of oatmeal, half of a peanut butter sandwich, half an apple and a few bites of eggs!  that's a lot for her!  when brady woke up, he downed a huge bowl of oatmeal, a bunch of eggs, part of abigail's peanut butter sandwich, and a handful of blackberries.  that's more than i would eat in two meals.  i have no idea how he is only 11th percentile.  the kid eats like an adult.

so the day was good, we played, we hung out with kirstyn and her kids, we cleaned up the entire great room, had a really fun evening, and got to bed.  all while maintaining our good moods!  what a successful day!

also, our trial and error experiment for tonight... abigail sleeping right alongside of brady's crib.  risky business, i know.  i told her she can't cry if she wakes up and i'm really crossing my fingers i won't have two angry kids at 2 in the morning.  we will see!

but check it out!  i cleaned it all before honey got home and even took down our christmas tree!

but despite all of this, the real winner of the day that was truly making progress?  brady!  today he's been crazy good at standing by himself and taking steps!  i don't know what it is but when a baby walks and when a baby talks... it doesn't get any more exciting than that.
