a child's prayer

within the last two weeks, baby girl has started praying.  she's always loved prayers and requested them before nap time and bedtime, if she thought there was a chance we'd forget.  then several weeks ago i noticed that when i'd pray, she would start praying with me, filling in the blanks at the end of sentences kinda.  so i asked if she would like to pray (we would do this on occasion) and she actually said yes and prayed! (normally she'd say yes and then wouldn't follow through) and it's been like that ever since.

i'm going to try and keep this post somewhat updated (with new things she prays for and the general date they're first mentioned) as things progress but who knows if that'll really happen.  so right now i just want to write what baby girl's prayers include.

dear heavenly father,
thank you for our day
thank you for all our blessings (no clue if she actually knows what "blessings" are)
thank you for...
brady
mommy
daddy
friends
nate 4.6.13
grandma  4.6.13
pooh bear (4.7.13)
books (first time she said this was after we spent all morning reading in bed!) 4.9.13
my trains 4.11.13
brady's trains 4.11.13
my nightlight 4.11.13
chris 4.13.13
treats 4.13.13

some things i'll prompt, but most of the prayer is her.  and sometimes i just say "thank you for..." and then wait for her to say something before i say "and" a few times.  so it gives her the structure while she fills in the blank.  and it's so precious and exciting to hear what new things she comes up with like the first time she said "nate" and "pooh bear" and "books."  i've prayed with her a minimum of twice a day (normally five or six though because of meals) for pretty much her entire life and i don't remember ever specifically expressing gratitude for "books" so it's awesome to hear her say that and know she gets the concept.  and because i looooove reading, of course it makes me happy and excited that my "i wanna watch thomas!" and "i wanna play daddy's ipad!" daughter enjoys reading and appreciates books too.

she's really growing up.  i know i say it often but seriously, she just keeps getting better and better.

last week, I wasn't sure if the kids had a lot of fun at this nature trail we went to, and then for lunch Evan said the prayer and he thanked Heavenly Father for going to the trails! I was excited because we are trying to get them to increase the variety of things they pray for and also because he must have really liked it if he prayed for it! I'll take those shining mom moments any day.
