shopping at old navy

i had a bad day yesterday.  bad bad bad.  and then i topped it off with a major breakdown.  hormones: 1 vs carrie: 0 and although it ended okay because i have an amazing husband, i was sad and terrified to wake up to his goodbye kiss this morning.  in my groggy sleepy state it went something like, "love you.  i'll see you wednesday night."  "ugh, i forgot you were leaving.  i'll miss you.  drive safely.  wait, are you driving or flying?  where are you going?"  "wisconsin."  "oh, so do you drive there or fly?"  "i'm going to work today then flying out around six and driving the rest of the way to madison tonight."  "ohhh, okay.  love you."

and then i remembered last night and decided that if my baby or i were to make through this day alive then i needed to make some plans.  she slept til 9 or so, we ate, got ready, and went across the street for a playdate.  got home at 1, ate, and went down for a nap.  i heard her wake up at 4 30 but let her play in her crib til she called out for me at 5 15.  we got ready, ate, checked the mail, and headed out.  i knew we needed to get out of the house and i was in need of maternity clothes.  so to old navy we went.  i can't even remember the last time i went to old navy but jodi recently was telling me that they have super cheap stuff on clearance and they actually have maternity clothes in the store and not just online.  fabulous.

baby girl was being cute.  as i looked through the messy clearance section, she kept handing me piles of shorts that had fallen off the rack and after watching me hang them up would gather more clothes from the floor to hang.  she also had a fun time looking at all the lunch boxes, taking them off the shelves, and then stacking them back again.  lunchboxes = the old navy version of stacking blocks.

then i hit up the maternity section that was all contained in a 3 foot by 4 foot nook.  but it had some good deals so it didn't matter.  quality vs. quantity.

and then we spent about an hour in the dressing room.  seriously wish i had timed it because it was forever.  although it probably didn't help that we had a dance party and took some pictures while baby girl tried on my clothes with me.  don't worry, after the first shirt she learned that she's not supposed to try on the hanger too.

i look like that because i'm pretty sure i'm in the middle of saying something pointless like "look at the camera!"

do you love that she tried on this shirt with the hanger still in place?!  i do.
sometimes she's so sweet and precious i wonder if she has to be holding out on me during all those sassy moments of her's.
this shirt i'm wearing looks and feels like a circus tent.  although sadly i have to admit that it was so comfortable i might have bought it if it'd been on sale enough.
baby girl did pretty well although i totally was cursing whoever designed a dressing room without a lock high enough to be out of reach of a toddler.  she kept unlocking the door but couldn't open it because she kept pulling instead of pushing.  thankgoodnessforthat.
and then we came home, ate dinner, and it was lights out.

and because i need things to occupy myself while honey is gone but heaven forbid should they actually be productive, i did a virtual fashion show for my dear sister emmy who earlier today said that she was going to the mall tonight because her fiance is out of town.  well my honey is out of town!  too bad we live on opposite sides of the country because we could have totally gone shopping together tonight!

this is the next best thing.

ribbed tank.  non maternity.  super long, super stretchy, super comfortable.  all of those things made up for the fact that it's neon orange and makes me think of miami.
i'll consider it a halloween investment.  too bad i'm not a tennessee fan.
basic tee
i totally wish they made normal shirts this long!
i'll admit i'm not a huge fan of this shirt.  except that it fit and it's modest and it was only $2.50.

basic black maternity sweater.  it's really similar to what i already have like a hybrid between by tommy lavendar v neck and the gathered sides banana sweater.
i couldn't believe a sweater was on clearance in august but whatever... i'll take it!
and then i also found another black sweater... for 47 cents!  SERIOUSLY?!  it was even in my correct size!
and even though it's maternity, you could totally wear this normal too just because it's one of those drape front cardigans.  do those have an official name?!  okay, just googled it.  i guess that's what they're actually called!
at first sight i thought this dress was the ugliest thing ever.  then i saw it was on clearance for $5.47 and i took a second look.  and after much debate i just went ahead and bought it.  but can i just say that it's a SIZE EXTRA LARGE MATERNITY?!
i feel confident that in late december when i'm too huge for anything else, this dress will still fit me.  remember that when you see me wearing this nice flowy, floral tent to our ward christmas party.
the downside?  well, the sleeves are ENORMOUS.  maybe i'll have to break out the sewing machine and hem those in a bit.
although i have tested out makeshift ways for rolling the sleeves up.  or i could just always wear it with that little black cardigan.  who knows.
so there are definitely a few things i'm not crazy about like the color orange, that red eiffle tower au revoir shirt, the floral dress... but they're practical for me right now.  they're modest, they fit, and they're cheap (all of this came to a grand total of $25).  and that dress... hopefully i can find a way to love it more (it's just a little too old fashioned vintage grandma nie nie dialogues type to still be in my comfort zone) because it's insanely comfortable and next spring/summer it'll be perfect to hide my doughy post baby belly, fit my giant nursing chest, and give my baby easy access because, did i mention?  that neckline is elastic and stretches clear down to my waist if i want it to.  oh the advantages of buying something a million sizes too big.  sooo HOORAY!  i bought maternity clothes!

and that was my day.  infinitely better than yesterday.

thank goodness.

You look adorable!! The grey t-shirt is my favorite. Also, could baby girl be any more precious??!!?

I can't believe you got all that stuff for $25. That's amazing! Also, my favorite is the striped gray shirt and the dress. It actually looks really good -- though I know what you mean about the Nie Nie style. :) Don't worry, though -- unless you start wearing purple opaque tights with it and some sort of patterned cardigan and a headband with a gigantic flower on it, it'll look fine. :)

Now that you know your general old navy maternity size you can check out the online maternity clearance stuff, too! $0.47!? Seriously! Awesome.

Love the screen print t on you. But totally understand you dislike for them. Ga football ones are about the only ones I wear. And the dress looks great on you. Love old navy clearance!! We share the same passion for those >$1 sales. :)
